Upper Delaware Fly Fishing Report
Today is my first day back in Roscoe after 3 weeks of vacation time. This year we chose to spend the slow period of summer in the Salt Water. We had a relaxing time splitting days between the pool and beach and of course some fishing mixed in.
Today we are hitting the ground running. We have 3 trips heading to the water today and we have a busy weekend scheduled. We have trips heading out for both Trout and Smallmouth Bass.
While we were gone our guides were still fishing.
Most of the trips that have been going out have been for Smallmouth Bass. This action has been exceptional on the Main Stem Delaware. Both Fly and Spin tackle are producing well.
We have several trips for smallies scheduled for the coming days so look for a more detailed report and some photos in the coming days.
The Trout fishing is still firmly planted in the summer mode. This is a laid back time ahere nothing happens at a high rate. There are Tricos and Terrestrials in the Am hours on the tailwaters. This action is fairly reliable and the trout are in a daily routine of feeding slowly but steadily on these tiny Mayflies.
The afternoon action is still best on the Upper West Branch where Sulfurs are still reliable enough to cause steady feeding. I would characterize this action at this time to be somewhat tired. The Trout are really ready for some cooler weather and a bit more diversity on their menu.
The late day action is all about where you are. There is a big difference in insect activity as you move around the rivers.
The best action is in the sections of the river that are a bit warmer but still in Trout temperature range. In these areas there is more diversity and the evenings can produce a mix of sufurs, Stenos, Isonychia, Olives, Cahills, Caddisflies, and Terrestrials. Anglers should also keep in mind that we are now in flying ant season. Huge swarms of these insects can appear at times and really cause some feeding blitzes.
WE have some openings if you want to take advantage of the last few weeks of the really good smallmouth bass action of this season. We are also still offering both full and half day Trout trips on the Tailwater Rivers.
If you plan on fishing with us this Autumn Fishing , now is the time to give us a call. We are currently taking bookings for now through November. The autumn trips are full day only.
