Tampa Bay Fly Fishing Report
Over the last few days we have been treated to some beautiful weather. The wind has been very light and we have been able to fly around the bay fishing lots of different locations.
The last 2 days I have had anglers out for light spin tackle trips. On both trips we fished artificials only with some great success. I have had my guests mostly fishing the surface. Spooks and Poppers have been getting a lot of attention. I have also been fishing soft baits on jig heads with small flies as teasers about 18" in front of the jig.
The action has been very good with both rigs.
On today's trip we really got into schools of smaller jacks and some bluefish. The jacks were super aggressive and they were attacking the poppers like pack animals. These lures have 2 hooks and we did take 2 small jacks at once.
At this time we have been finding the bay water to be from the high 60's to the mid 70's depending where you are. As long as the weather stays warm the baitfish should remain inshore and on the flats. With that said we can expect to see Jacks, Bluefish, Spanish Macks, Large Ladyfish and more crashing bait on the surface
