TROUT SEASON OPENS APRIL 1
With the recent snowfall in the Catskills, the scene is set for a great 2017 season. At this time last year we experienced unseasonably warm temperatures and entered into the 2016 season with low water and zero snow pack in the hills.
This ultimately contributed to record low flows mid season. As it appears now, 2017 has the makings for a healthy watershed and happy fish. The reservoirs are up, the hills have snow and the extended forecast shows highs around 40-45 degrees. Today's high sun melted off about 3-4 inches and if this continues as it looks like it should, the rivers will be perfect for the 2017 season.
