Fly Fishing Report for the Upper Delaware and Catskill Rivers

First off my apologies for the absence of my report last week. We had a very busy week. Look for an official announcement coming in the next few days. We are putting the final touches on a new location for our fly shop. Starting this week you can find us on Roscoe's Main Street, Stewart Ave.

We are now located right next door from the Pharmacy and directly across the street from the big parking lot.

Now on to the fishing

Right now all Upper Delaware rivers are very low. We could really use some rainfall at this time. Anglers planning to fish in the coming days will have full access to the rivers and about endless opportunity to wade. For those with drift boats the current conditions require an good amount of creativity when choosing a location to float. You should also be ready to do some gel coat damage.

Overall the fishing is pretty good both on the dry fly and below the surface. Our guests have been doing well. Over the weekend our guides reported some really nice Trout coming to net.

On my trips yesterday Dr. Bob landed three 18" Bows in the last hour to top off a day where we steadily picked at them with both nymphs and dry flies. On yesterdays trips there were enough risers to keep a dry fly guy happy all day.

Anglers should note that with the low crystal clear water the fish are a bit spooky. We have been staying well above the fish when using the dry fly. We have also been spending a lot more time long line nymphing in recent days.

The best flies have not changed much since my last report. Isonychia are still best for blind fishing the water. I have also been having very good action blind fishing a big Isonychia sized Hackle Spinner.This weekend the spinner was the performer and all of our larger fish came to this fly.

Also needed at this time are Flying Ants, Isonycha, BWO, October Caddis, Brown Caddis, White Fly, Sulfur, Mixed SIzes of spinners.

Below the surface you traditional BH nymphs will take some fish. Our guides do however like to us some more customized models of the old standbys.

Pheasant Tails, Prince, Copper John, Ice Pupa, Sunken Emergers, ISonychia, Midge Larva, etc. will get some attention.

We are taking bookings for daily fishing on the Delaware. Now is your time to reserve a date in October for the great dry fly action with the cooler weather Olives. We are also booking days with our guides for Salmon River and Lake Ontarion Tributaries for Trout and Salmon.
