Tampa Bay Fly Fishing Report
Warm Weather has the fishing improving daily!
Right now both Fly anglers and Spin Anglers have expanding options around the bay. Over the last few days we have been finding water temperatures back in the 70's and there are bait fish returning to the shallow water. On my last few trips we have been doing really well.
Right now I have a lot of options for my guests. We can hunt the flats for Trout and Redfish. The Snook are becoming active in the back country. There are schools of bait so chasing Macks, Ladyfish and Blues is possible.
There is also the option of hunting giant Cobia around the power plant and along the edges of the flats. The warm weather has pods of Manatees leaving their winter sanctuaries and wherever you find them there is the chance to find some big Cobia or Reds. Saturday we found a group of manatees kicking up the sand and we had some good action around them with the fly.
Below is a baby manatee that came in to check us out. probably thought the skiff was mom.
On recent trips the catch has been getting more diverse. This week we have had Speckled Trout, Sand Trout, Spanish Mackerel, Ladyfish, Redfish, Snook, Pompano, and Snapper taken on the fly. I also had 1 trip with light spin tackle that was all action on jigs with 4" paddle tail bait fish.
The long range forecast looks like continued 80 degree days. The action should now stay hot right through until the time where I head north in early April.
