Upper Delaware and Catskill Fishing Report

WEEKEND OUTLOOK

It has been hot and sunny throughout the Upper Delaware and Catskill regions. This typical July weather is forecast to continue through the weekend. This forecast is perfect for activities that include water!

Right now we have good opportunity for those who wish to fly fish for Trout and those who want to pursue Bass and other species on the Delaware and in our local reservoirs, lakes and ponds.

First the trout

Right now the Trout fishing is limited to the Upper sections of the East and West branches of the Delaware. These river sections are Ice Cold and fishing very well. My last report detailed the specifics of the current tailwater fishing and included lots of information on time and techniques. Please reference that report for the details.

All of our guided trips for trout are taking place on the East and West. This week our guests continued to do great. Hook up rates have been in the double digits on nymphing trips. Every day a few real nice fish have been coming to net. Our evening float trips have been offering up steady opportunity to cast to rising Trout. The dry fly action has been far more technical than the nymphing but everyone is catching a few.

If you are looking to trout fish we currently have a few options. Full Day Floats- Mix of dry and nymph fishing.

Nymphing Floats. These are full day floats that are instructional. Our guides will teach you several different nymphing techniques that will fool the selective East and West branch trout.

Evening floats- 4 hour trips that target the evening hatch. This is all dry fly fishing.

The Smallmouth Bass fishing is great! Right now we are offering half and full day trips for Bass on the Delaware. These trips are with Fly Rod or Light Spin Tackle.

The action is good on the surface. Topwater flies such as Poppers, Gurglers and Hoppers are taking fish. Topwater lures on light spin tackle are also taking fish.

The action below the surface is very reliable. On the fly, Buggers, Zonkers and assorted Baitfish are getting noticed. On light tackle soft baits are killing it. Twister tails, Gulp Baits and Paddle tails keep the rod bent. Larger crankbaits will get less attention but may yield some larger fish.
